October 2022 - Positive Mindset

Meet our Student Advocacy Counselors

My name is Crystal Anderson and I have been the Student Advocacy Counselor at Crossroads Outreach, Journey’s Learning Academy Outreach and Lac La Biche Outreach in 2019/2020.  Throughout 2020 to spring of 2022, I was solely in Lac La Biche Outreach and this gave me the opportunity to enter the educational journey once again.  Within the two year time frame I have recently obtained my Indigenous Bachelor’s of Social Work Degree through Blue Quills University.  I am proud to say that I am rotating back into all three schools as of this September, 2022 and I look forward to building relationships and connecting to students, families and communities along the way.

Hi my name is Judy Livingston and I have been the Student Advocacy Counselor at Bonnyville Outreach School since 2016.  I went to school in my 30s and in my 40s and with an RSW and Bachelor of Social Work. I know how hard it is to juggle life and going to school. And now I have finally found my dream job at the Outreach. I have been so happy to be here. This is a positive and supportive environment for staff and students. Wish you were here attending school.

Hello everyone, I am Kimberly Turchyn and I have the honor of being the Student Advocacy Counselor for Cold Lake Outreach since 2018 and with the Northern Lights Public Schools since 2013. Along with my amazing college I have a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, empowering students to be their best selves.  A little bit about me is that I love to hike, camp, travel and to hang out with my family and my pup Milo.

This month we are focusing on fostering a positive mindset which will help us reduce stress and anxiety. Our nutrition plays a huge role in our mental health and wellness of our brains! Feeding your mind, body and soul is feeding our spirit is very important! Your "gut health" refers to good bacteria that lives in your digestive system - and here’s the interesting twist: researchers have found that 95% of your serotonin is produced in the gastrointestinal tract. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps regulate your body’s sleep and appetite, control moods, and prevent pain. Each of our Outreach Schools promote brain nourishment with tasty healthy options and available to the students daily.
