March 2023  Healthy lifestyles(activity, sleep nutrition)

Thank you to all of the parents and guardians who read and reviewed our February BLOG  last month. Compassion ( kindness, self compassion and Pink T-shirt day)

This is the time when we prepare for Spring with the warmer weather and more sunshine to reduce the Seasonal Affective Disorder symptoms.

You know where you feel tired, cranky and can not wait for Summer. If you have not been active over the winter months you may be a bit under the weather.

That's right UNDER THE WEATHER- too much snow, too cold, who wants to go to work? I would rather travel weather.

For those that did travel they were looking for warmer weather, the chance to catch up on sleep and best of all SUNSHINE.

As this month is about healthy lifestyles  etc. we may have to find it ourselves. By taking the time for just us.

SELF CARE-BATH SALTS Homemade bath salts are the perfect self-care treat. Plus, they're super easy to make.   Not only do homemade bath salts make a great do-it-yourself project to pamper yourself with a little self-care at home, but they also make the perfect DIY gift for just about any occasion. The children can make this.

CHECK out essential oils and what they can do for you. For instance did you know that Lavender is a calming, balancing, sedative, promotes a sense of well being. Just blend this with another essential oil to add the healing properties you may need to feel more balanced.

Try a little lavender essential oil sprayed on your pillow lightly or maybe on a cloth that you can place close to your. It does help, you just have to try it out. Essential oils can be bought at many places and it is best to research the brands to make sure you are happy with the one you choose.

Now you may ask what about sleep. We know that sleep is important and that our bodies go through many stages during our sleep. The one that most interested me was the stage where we heal while sleeping and if we do not pass through this stage un interrupted it can affect our well being.. Check out this site that explains the four stages of sleep. What Are the 4 Stages of Sleep?

Now it is time to get going and start your journey and your day to feeling better and more prepared to meet each day.

NUTRITION starts with a healthy eating pattern.

Here is one way to look at this:

11 Simple Ways to Stick to a Healthy Diet

Remember it is all about you and how can you help others if you do not help yourselves. Take one step at a time and ask for help if you need it. There is a dietician at the Health Unit that can help you begin if you are not sure. Just take one day at a time and start over if you need to.

Wake up each morning and treat yourself with the respect you deserve. Look in the mirror and know that the person looking at you wants what you want. A better outlook and a chance to make any changes that you feel you need to make. That person in the mirror will pick you up if you just ask and help you on your journey to be the you you are ready to be.  Have a great day from the OUTREACH SCHOOLS and also from us the Student Advocacy counselors, Crystal, Kim and Judy.
